Tonquani/Kiepersol conservation

Weeding weekend at Kiepersol Kloof 22-23 June.
This weekend’s weeding will be a good way for people to get to know a part of the Magaliesberg not
often visited. Kiepersol Kloof is upstream from Junction Pool at Tonquani. It lies on the
Lude/Cooke land south of Tonquani but the
stream actually starts in Easter Kloof land further south. It is a beautiful area.

We will get permission to drive up [4wd only – volunteers please!!] and camp where the track ends
at the cars, on Boulder Kloof land [ONLY for conservation meets!] The weeding target will be crofton weed; it grows in the wetland there [serious threat to Tonquani
stream!] and higher upstream in a small narrow channel to its source.

We will meet at 8h30 on Saturday at the normal Calabash parking and leave the non-4wd cars there.
Please let me know which day you will be coming. Some will be going up on Sunday. We need to know
who is coming and when, please.

You would need water-sandals or old boots, gumboots, garden gloves, crofton cropper tools [I have
some extras for R50] or split-point garden tool and small fork.

Message from our Chairman:

To all Mountain club members in Gauteng - please note that due to some attempted access to our properties during lockdown we would like to reiterate that access is suspended until relevant lockdown regulations deem it legal.  Currently, we suspect that this will only be in level 2 or 1 as both inter-provincial travels is required (Magaliesberg is largely in the North-West) and, more critically, hiking and climbing are not considered essential activities.

Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Stephen Hoffe
