There are approximately 70 properties that members of the JHB Section climb and hike on within a 5hr travelling time from Jhb. In most cases the club makes use of private land: certain areas are owned by the club and certain farms have servitudes registered in the club’s name. On others, the club has built up relationships with the owners and the club’s use of this land is based on the goodwill built up between the owner and the club over the years. Such privileges are highly valued and carefully guarded.
A large proportion of these are situated within the Magaliesberg Mountain Range, which is typically from 1-1,5hrs drive from Jhb.
Other iconic locations visited are the sport climbing area at Waterval Boven in Mpumulanga, big wall trad climbing and hiking at Blouberg in Limpopo and the section’s only hut, the Wolkberg Hut, near Tzaneen.
