Committee Members
For general enquiries and membership questions please contact the Club Administrator first. For any enquiries regarding the different sub sections and committees, please contact the committee leader directly.
CHAIRPERSON
Bennie de Wet
Acts as the spokesperson for the club. Provides leadership to the committee and members to provide a vision, and strategy to achieve the objectives as set out in the Constitution. Motivates people to join the club and members to be active.
CONSERVATION
Tamarin Scheidegger
Promote conservation to members, creating opportunities to learn about the ecosystems and how to limit the threats to these. Regular conservation work meets, snare patrols and Verreaux Eagle monitoring project.
LEGAL
Paul Carstensen
Assist and support portfolio members with legal issues. Minimize legal risks. Document legal compliance, including indemnities and waivers; Clubs’ rights to land. Assist in dispute resolution and legal ramifications of Club activities.
TREASURER
Andre Dalais
Safeguard Clubs assets. Maintain accounting records and financial reports. Taxation matters. Prepare annual budget and membership fees. Support all activities in achieving the Club constitutional objectives.
LAND & ACCESS
Roy Kendall
Facilitate access, safeguard properties owned by the Club; legal servitude or Club agreements with landowners. Explore land access opportunities. Manage land ownership.
SEARCH & RESCUE
Brett Pepper
Growing MSAR team; identify interested, able club members and assist them through the selection and training process. Increase rescue capability. Increase funding for rescues and training.
COMMUNITY
Saray Khumalo
Through the vision of Mountain Club of South Africa, we are building the next generation of mountain stewards who explore, discover, connect and protect the natural world that we cherish.
MEETS
Andreas Draxl
Encourage members to enjoy the benefits of the Club by maintaining regular and varied meets which are an opportunity for new experiences, growth, and conservation in the mountains.
TRAD ORIENTATION
Bennie de Wet
Promote and introduce Trad Climbing to members by providing climbing opportunities, arranging regular training clinics, instilling safe practices, and demystifying Trad Climbing.
SPORT ORIENTATION
Deanne Kieser
Introduce and promote Sport Climbing to members by organizing meets, running regular training clinics, instilling safe practices, and encouraging indoor climbers to venture out onto natural rock.
YOUTH
Gjordon Muller
Create an environment helping young people to find a passion for the outdoors; inspiring a desire for knowledge and learning, and conservation of our outdoor spaces. Facilitating youth skills development.
MARKETING
Debbie Bassa
Educate prospective and existing members about the purpose of MCSA Jhb; promoting mountaineering and related activities, as well as the opportunities and benefits of being an MCSA Jhb member.
