The Mountain Club of SA - Johannesburg Section
The Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) is an organisation of people who love mountaineering; from rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, international expeditions, search and rescue, training and conservation.
Founded in Cape Town in 1891, the Mountain Club of South Africa is one of the oldest mountaineering clubs in the world. A large part of what we do centres around the procurement of access for mountaineering activities. The MCSA national body comprises of 15 geographically based sections across the country, and owns a multitude of beautiful mountain huts and wilderness properties across South Africa. The MCSA is a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO No 930013449).
UIAA
The UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) is the recognised international federation for mountain sports and the acknowledged expert on all international climbing and mountaineering matters. The MCSA was invited to join the UIAA in 1995 and is the only member from Africa. Through its membership of the UIAA the MCSA is afforded many opportunities, in the form of access to knowledge, the UIAA commissions, international expeditions and training initiatives.
Our Mission Statement
The Johannesburg Section of the Mountain Club of South Africa actively fosters and facilitates mountaineering. This incorporates climbing, trekking, mountain walking and related activities, and promoting fellowship between people with these interests who are committed to the conservation of mountain areas.
