Chosspile has to be rated the best sport climbing location nearest to Johannesburg.
In an effort to keep it that way the sport climbing and conservation fraternities are joining forces to conserve this precious gem.
Enjoy a day of climbing mixed with a sprinkling of conservation.
This is a place that we, climbers, like to use and frequent, so whilst we are there, we will tackle the lantana close to the crag itself. Hopefully this effort will lessen the creep of these plants into the surrounding indigenous vegetation. The bottom section really shows what happens when this plant is left to take over. If you moan about your car being scratched then think that this may well be you on the crag in future.
Learn how to take them out from the experts, the Rangers, who will also be there.
For those of you that make a B-line to the Lord of the Rings Cave, perhaps a break by the tributary to pull a few Crofton plants will set your mind right.
We will also be changing the solar panel of the trailcam on the Verreaux Eagle nest. The alternating habitation of the baboons and the eagles on the nest, that was caught on camera last year, needs some follow up. This exercise will require some long abseiling and trad experience.
Please notify the meet leader of your attendance in advance.
