The art of Rope Soloing can be an amazing experience that connects you with nature like never before.
The complete self-reliance and freedom from external dependencies and interruptions is uniquely refreshing.
Rope Soloing is also a valuable skill to have to get you out of an otherwise sticky situation when climbing with others. (Stuck Ropes etc.)

This forum is for experienced rope solo practitioners wanting to fine tune their systems and willing to share knowledge and insights with the group,
as well as experienced climbers wanting to explore the art of Rope Soloing.
Agenda:

  • Rope Soloing Presentation and Discussion
    • Application and Skills
    • Devices and Systems
    • Unique Rope Soloing Risks
  • Demonstration of a LRS and TRS climb
  • Practice:  For those in the group wanting to try out the system demonstrated (or their own system) (With top rope as backup as required)

Date: 26 – 27 November 2022
Venue: Castle Gorge, Magaliesberg
Meet Type: Conservation
Meet Leader: Tam Cheidegger
Contact: CG Pipes and Pompom

The Rand Water access road that runs through the Castle Gorge property became incised and deep water channels formed where the wheels of trespassing/maintenance vehicles drove through the wetland.
Rather than having bulldozers and heavy equipment bring in foreign rock and degrade the wetland further we hope to try a different approach by manually clearing out blocked pipes under the track.

Once this task has been done, we will scout around to find new pompom seedlings sprouting. Come share in the joy of truly making a difference.

We will drive up in 4x4s from the CG parking. Meeting at 8:00 on Saturday, returning Sunday lunchtime. Join for the weekend or just one day.

The MCSA was founded in the Cape in 1891 by mountaineers who were able to help those in need on the hills and cliffs around the Mother City as more people ventured upwards. This was the origin of the Mountain Club as we know it today and is a tradition that is strongly upheld by the volunteers of the Mountain Search and Rescue team – known to us as MSAR.

Join us on November 30th for a presentation on how volunteers train for and carry out rescues throughout Southern Africa and how you can get involved in the team. MSAR needs you!

Included in this talk will be the presentation of a helicopter rescue which happened on Cathedral Rock, an isolated sea stack on the Wild Coast, in April this year. It is not to be missed.
