    • Conservation meet – 1 MAY 2021

The next BIG Weeding Meet is next week Saturday at Dome South. We have been asked to scout the newly accessible area that the MCSA is using for climbing. There IS pompom, but we do not know how blown the flowers are, so some people can bring bags and a lady’s fork. At the cliff face, we expect lantana and bugweed, to tackle this we will need some trad climbers with thick leather gloves and strong arms.

Contact Tam Scheidegger to join. 072 284 5459 or Tamscheidegger@gmail.com

For those new members who indicated that they would like to get involved with conservation, this is an ideal opportunity to meet the dynamic conservation team, and visit our newest premier climbing venue in the Magaliesberg.

    Climbing @ Hamerkop Kloof

    All day
    2021.05.02-2021.11.02

    Venue:  Hamerkop

    Meet leader:  Guenther Bargon
    email: gjbargon@gmail.com  /  cell: 083 659 0850

Hamerkop Kloof is a long kloof, the lower part of which is owned by the Hamerkop Mountain Trust while the upper part is privately owned, so off limits unless you have a permit from the landowner.  The kloof is home to over 200 trad climbs along its length, of which most are grade 18 and below. Many of the routes are also one pitch long, making the area a safe and fun venue for people starting trad climbing.  Hamerkop has one of the shortest walk-ins of any of the Magaliesberg kloofs, making it a popular crag for families with young children.

    Numbers will be limited.

    C limbing @ Mhlabatini

    All day
    2021.05.09

    Meet leader:  Chris Ziranek
    email: cziranek@global.co.za / cell: 082 373 5605

A beautiful steep and narrow kloof famous for its many crack climbs. Most of the 140 or so routes in Mhlabatini are multi-pitch natural lines.  While grades vary from 5 to 27 there’s a large selection of higher grade climbs – making it a favourite for climbers wanting to push grades. The land is owned by MCSA but our initial access is over privately owned land.
Parking is near the farmhouse of the farm adjacent to the MCSA property – cost is R40/car/day payable at the venue – into the ‘honesty box’ in the parking area, where the MCSA register also has to be signed.
MCSA OFFICE IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO COVID-19, BUT IS FUNCTIONAL.
