    All day
    2020.02.02

    Meet leader: Steve Hoffe tel  082 411 9418 / email: stevehoffe@gmail.com
Hamerkop Kloof is a long one, the lower part of which is owned by the Hamerkop Mountain Trust, while the upper part is privately owned so off limits unless you have a permit from the landowner. The kloof is home to over 200 trad climbs along its length, of which most are grade 18 and below. Many of the routes are also one pitch long, making the area a safe and fun venue for people starting trad climbing. Hamerkop has one of the shortest walk-ins of any of the Magaliesberg kloofs, making it a popular crag for families with young children.

    Climbing @ Mhlabatini

    All day

    9 February 2020 – Climbing @ Mhlabatini

    Meet leader: Allister Fenton tel 082 093 8562  / email: allister.fenton@gmail.com
A beautiful steep and narrow kloof famous for its many crack climbs. Most of the routes in Mhlabatini are multi-pitch natural lines.  While grades vary from 5 to 27 there’s a large selection of higher grade climbs, making it a favourite for climbers wanting to push grades. Mhlabatini has about 140 trad climbs on excellent steep rock.  While there are easier climbs in the upper quarter (including plenty of 15s), the large number of climbs from grade 19 up make the kloof more suited to experienced climbers climbing higher grades.  There are no access or descent gullies in the climbing area apart from the top and bottom ends of the kloof.
Parking is near the farmhouse of the farm adjacent to the MCSA property – cost is R40/car/day – pay at the farm, drop the cash into the Honesty Box close to the MCSA register which has to be signed. Do not arrive or leave in the dark! Please be quiet and courteous. And please don’t allow the farmer’s dogs follow you!
Numbers will be limited so pre-booking with Allister is essential. Can we double up in cars, please?
