In July 2017, four South African mountaineers (including our members Alex Harris and Sean Disney) and adventurers set out to set a new record for the fastest time to climb the 9 peaks – the highest peak in each of the 9 South African provinces. The record they were chasing was pegged at 4 days, 18 hours and 38 minutes. Months of planning marked the start date of the attempt on 12 July 2017. The four days that followed threw some of the most extreme winter weather SA has seen in a long time at them. Their journey was captured by a crew that followed them – for the most part – which resulted in the 9 Peaks Record documentary that is currently available on Showmax.
