  • Climbing @ MANOUTSA with Evan Margetts weekend
    All day
    2019.05.11-2019.05.12

    Meet Leader:  Evan Margetts   :  083 295 7704  /  email: evanmargetts@gmail.com
Manoutsa/Strijdom Tunnel, Mpumalanga – Limpopo Province border, offers over 100 traditional climbs on rock of excxvellent quality with very good gear placement. Routes are between 5 – 7 pitches with stunning views of the Loweld. The climbing area is upstream of the Strijdom Tunnel on both sides of the road that leads down the Escarpment towards Tzaneen. The difficult nature of both path and route-finding means that MCSA meet participants have an ideal opportunity to familiarise themselves with the area.  Approximate travelling time from Johannesburg is about 4 hours.
Contact Evan a.s.a.p to join this weekend event and for further information.

We will meet at 08:00 in the parking area at the Dome.  Looking forward to seeing everybody there!
JHB members: this is an opportunity to get to know Magaliesberg section members and also learn more about another beautiful Magaliesberg property.

Directions to Dome parking: From the N4 highway take the Mooinooi off-ramp, drive through Mooinooi. Turn Right at the T-junction with the R104. At the Barnardsvlei turn-off (0.8km from T-junction) turn left (south), in the direction of the mountain. The road is tarred for 2,3 km and then turns into a gravel road. 600 Meters on the gravel road (~2,9 km from the Barnardsvlei turn-off), look out for a small gravel road turning off to the left. There are several signboards including “Dome” & “Emoyeni”. Follow the dirt road for 1,3 km to a T-junction. Turn right (Dome signboard). After ~ 500 m turn left at next T-junction then continue straight uphill. The parking area is on the left under trees, OUTSIDE the security fence of the van Staden homestead.

  • Tonquani Hike with Geoff Moore
    All day
    2019.05.19

    Meet Leader:  Geoff Moore   :  082 456 7347  /  email:  geoff@mooreconstruction.co.za
Meet at the Askari entrance on the R99 at 07:45 sharp.  Please do not be late. We still have to complete paperwork and take a 30-minute drive to the car-park. The hike will start at 08:15 am. The hike will require a fair amount of hiking fitness as the terrain is rough.

Note that the access road to the parking spot in Askari has been washed out by the recent rains. It is best to have a raised vehicle to access this road. If your vehicle is low, you will not make it so let Geoff know if you need a lift, or can offer a lift so we can share vehicles. Please phone or email Geoff to book for this hike as numbers will be limited.

Costs:  The parking fee is R40/car.   Non-members will be required to pay a non-member fee of R40 for the hike for adults, and R20 for students and children
