Grootkloof is a shady, attractive kloof with a running stream, clear pools and unique rock formations, including a huge suspended chock stone with trees growing on it straddling the whole kloof midway between Sonderbroek and Trumpet. The rock, which in places reaches 60 metres in height, is generally excellent, and the kloof has a good selection of climbs of all grades.

JHB members : this is an ideal opportunity for you to get to know our Kloofs, help with the ongoing work to keep them clear of allien vegetation, and have a great deal of fun getting to know fellow MCSA members. Contact Theo to find out what you need to bring apart from yourself.

Climbing @ Kransberg weekend with Chris Ziranek CANCELLED due to weather

    All day
    2019.02.16-2019.02.17

Meet leader:  Chris Ziranek  –  email: cziranek@global.co.za

Kransberg offers good quality multi-pitch climbing at moderate grades.  With routes of between 3 and 6 pitches long and grades from 11 to 22 it is a great place to hone your multi-pitch skills before heading off to Blouberg.  The exposure is excellent, and the birdlife unrivalled.  Car camping. Bring your own water for the camp-site.

The walk in is steep, and for most sections without a path.  Expect a little bush bashing and wear long pants.  The hike to the base of the cliffs takes about an hour.   You must contact Chris if you wish to participate!
